Cows

We have spent many, many years building our herd, and very few females have left the herd through consignment sales, however we cull very hard. Over the years, we have established a herd strong in numbers, and even stronger in quality: Good uddered, easy fleshing, free moving, moderate framed, fertile females that thrive in hard grass country are selected for replacements. They have to be profitable, or they don’t stay. These females produce the bulls we sell at our annual bull sale, the ShortGrass Simmental Bull Sale, which is held the first Saturday in March in Veteran. These bulls are thick, rugged, hairy, high performing red and black bulls that are making a big impact on herds in Eastern Alberta and Western Saskatchewan. Behind every good bull is a great mother cow.

Blackberry left our herd for a few years, and went on to produce herdbulls for N Lazy B. We acquired her last year at their dispersal, and are looking for exceptional things from her in years to come.

Kory is truly a foundation cow in our program; all of her daughters are in our herd, as well as several grand-daughters. She continues to bring in good ones year after year, and will be going into our donor program in 2009.

Salsa was 51K’s first daughter, and has gone on to produce the good ones. Her one and only bull calf was our high selling black bull at our first bull sale. More recently, a daughter was one of our high sellers at the Pathway 2 Profit female sale, and sold to Parview Stock Farms. A black foundation cow that may find her way into our donor program.

A tremendous ¾ blood cow that has been bred up from our Black Angus herd. She works hard year after year, continually giving saleable animals, with bulls working at Gary Woods, Oyen, AB, and Clark Huston’s, Sibbald, AB. She also has a daughter working for Nathan Stone, and more recently, a grand-daughter was the high selling open heifer at the Pathway 2 Profit sale selling to Shologan Stock Farm.

Riot delivers again and again. She is the mother to our herdsire, Rockstar, and is currently in our donor program. She is truly an outstanding individual, and the type of cow to build a program around, with her outcross pedigree and her proven production. Riot is currently in our donor program.
